About the event
What is osteopathy, and who is AT Still - so many osteopaths now do not get much training in traditional osteopathic concepts as they are seen as outmoded and unevidenced. Â There has been a dedicated and longstanding drive to orient the profession to the MSK and hands-off approaches to care that suit NHS models of service delivery. Â But, this is your chance to really scrutinise what all the hype is about when people say traditional osteopathy has much to offer. Â It's not the same paradigm, but that does NOT mean it is unevidenced. Â You can come and get all your questions answered, understand how things have been diminished unnecessarily, and come and find out about models of health and HOW TO ASSESS YOUR PATIENTS IN NEW WAYS. Â How does this square with the GOsC regulations? - come and find out. Â Small groups, get the hands-on orientation YOU need (each one of us is different) and learn a deeper appreciation fo how to interact with people's hea;t potential and their self-regulatory capacity. Â It's not bunkum!!
These 4 days discuss paradigms and philosophy, but in a practical way, with implications for evidence synthesis and research questions. Â They consider the physioogical background of traditional osteopathic practice and help you understand 3D osteopathy, and how balance, fluids and global muscle / motor sensory synergy is a foundational concept, and how early ostoepathic models (yes, even the spinal, mechan ones) had much to say that is relevant about how gravity, posture and health are all related (and increasdingly evidenced). Â The course also take s close look at palpation and hands on skills, and critically appraises the literature which says palpation is unreliable and clinically useless, and that is doesnt matter where you touch, as its all just social grooming / empathetic touch anyway. Â This course really explores how anatomical accuracy has a very improtant part to play in practice and gives you lots of hands on concepts to think about and explore. It explores what palpation and perception are, and helps you understand emergence, and secondary processing and intuition as positive, practitioner-centered skills that we can all continue to develop throughout our practice lives. The course considers all tissues, including bone and helps you assess not just MSK issues, but immune, endocrine and lymphatic dynamics too (amongst much more).
This course also gives you an integrated approach to body cavities, contents and the somatic container, and discusses how fluids, pressures and physiology all come together to look at viscerosomatic integration. Â It discusses the neurophysiological basis of the osteopathic lesion, and how spinal cord and brain stem / higher centre convergence is a real thing in the outer world of science, and how there is an afferent basis for reflex considerations for soteopathic concetps. Finally it trouches on the plauisiobility of the involuntary mechanism, looks at mechanisms behind fluid flow in the cranium and dural system, not just CSF but blood suply and drainage too, and looks at electrical activity / brainwaves and the tricky concepts of concsiousness and spirit in osteopathy.Â
